"All work and no play makes Jake a dull boy"

The Maugham's story was different from the Aesop the fable of the ant and the grasshopper. Because Tom was as same as the grasshopper and he had a good life, both of stories had a little difference. The ant worked hard to save food in order to live in winter and it successed in winter but the grasshopper had fun all the day and it failed in winter. Thereby, the Maugham's story was totally difference because Tom was charm and friendly and his brother George was work-hard and role moral, their future had a different way. They had business and marriage but they were aggressive each other. Tom was handsome so many people loved him; George was role-moral so he wasn't attractive to people. Therefore, many people liked to have fun with Tom and help him. This was why Tom was received to many people of love and he won his brother George.

I agreed with the Maugham's story when a person worked hard and he was role-moral, he wasn't attractive to almost people. He was bored and couldn't create something; as a result, he didn't have a good social skill. However, when a person was friendly and charm because he had a good communicate with people and he kept a good relationship with people; as a result, he had a lot of people's love. Therefore, I agreed with Maugham because he affected in the real world.

The Friendship Bond

I think that friendship is the same between marriage and other social roles, besides that, friendship doesn't link parents and children, and employees and employers. It is just to increase feeling of warmth, trust and affection between two people. Every friends is different, and according to the article talked about 60 present liked to discuss activities in general, 27 present in detail. Most of friends would tell their friends if they had an illness, although they also acknowledged sometimes the feeling lonely.

The Ant and the Grassopper

The Ant and the grassopper was different from the Maugham's story, and they talked about two animals in the same environment but they had different future. The ant worked hard to save food to live in winter and the grassopper was lazy to have fun and it couldn't live in winter. On contrast, in the Maugham's story talked about Tom was friendly as same as the grassopper didn't like work but he was handsame and intelligent to get into a lot of people's heart. However, Tom's brother George was unlucky and he looked like the ant very work hard and intelligent but he was role model and many people couldn't like him. Finally, Tom and George had different future, Tom got engaged to a old woman but she was died and left him amounts of property, and George didn't get extra money and he worked hard in his own business.

I liked the ant because it worked hard each day. It prepared the food in summer and couldn't worry about cold winter. Finally, when winter came, the ant stayed home and enjoyed in the winter life. However, in the Maugham's story, I liked Tom because he knew how to use his good things such as charming. Therefore, I loved this story and the fable and learned a lot.

opinion and interpretation

I liked this story talked about the woman Henrietta Lacks fought with her disease to become immoral cells although she died. Her doctor Gey felt jeaous to Henrietta because of her color and she had immoral cells. Then her doctor wanted to use her cells in culture to involved money and didn't care for her family. Although Henrietta suffered from many whilte doctor team discrimination, she had others researchers support. The journalist Rabecca wrote down her story to tell this world Henrietta Lacks' first immoral cells, and everyone will know her ever.

By the 1960s, everybody said Henrietta was really hospitality and cooked good although she died in cancer and her cells was donated by Dr. Gey, and he never asked her family anything. Her cells have been bombed up in medical miracles, and could cure for some cancer and other things, even AIDS. In additional, the scientists laughed at HeLa cells that could survive on the other areas were so strong, and researchers experimented with the growing library of cells to make historic discoveries. They found out why normal cells stopped to grow and cancer cells didn't. Besides that George Gey and his others' cell culture who traveled from everywhere to discuss the future of cell culture found a technical problems in their field. The scientists had no ideas to against HeLa cells if they got mixed up in culture. And Deborah was a pregnant in the high school, Bobbette helped her to find job after she graduated whether she liked it or not. Moreover, Deborah's young brother rebelled with out of group although his family had hoped the military would help control. He killed his friend Ivy and felt guilty and wrote letter to criminal court judge. Finally, Gey died by pancreas cancer and he hoped a line of cancer cells taken from his pancreas, like Henrietta's, would become immortal. After Gey died in 1970, Henrietta's name was first published and she could enjoy the fame.

Impression:

I think that the miracle was the most important for Henrietta because her cells become immoral, and she could cure other people although she didn't know.

Reading problem

When I read English, I will read at least twice. One time I just read and don't use distionary, and second I will look for I cannot understand words. Reading is hard to understand what the author explained. I like read in my room and nobody can disturb.  Therefore, I wouldn't like to go to the local public library because there are many children and teenagers to play and speak loud there.

P93 ~ 136

After Henrietta died, their family didn't say cancer and her anymore. Doctors created Tuskegee team, which experimented Henrietta's cells. And then they built her factory and help to save the lives of Americans, besides that, they were using cultured cell tests that grew on massive scale. Many people knew Henrietta's name after the story "Minneapolis Star" published by Berg. He tried to help Henrietta and researched her story and told this world. However, the story couldn't make Gey to stop the experiment of immortal. When Henrietta's youngest daughter Deborah was in high school, she cried to her dad, Day to asked that what happened to her mom. Day just said she was too young to remember. After Gey's team was published in the newspaper, many researchers flourished mush of Henrietta's cells.

Impression:

Gey was so evil because he wanted to get HeLa's cells to save the lives of Americans and he didn't tell to Henrietta and her family. He forced to Henrietta become his the test of mouse.

Question:

Why can the scientists save the lives of Americans because of benefit?

P63 - 92

Since discrimination in hosipal, black people were glad to be getting treatment. And Henrietta felt uncomfortable day by day, she had to tranfer an number of blood by other people. However, the doctors found nothing wrong with her cells and always returned next month to answer Henrietta.

Henrietta was kind woman and didn't doubt her doctor. Rebecca tried to help Henrietta and she met her family, then researched her experiences. Moreover, she created the Henrietta museum. Clover and Sonny examined why black people couldn't treat in hospital. They found Henrietta's cancer to not regular cancer because regular cancer couldn't grow after a person died.

Finally, Henrietta's body was almost entirely taken by tumors; consequently, she died before she told her sister Gladys to take care of her children. When she die, her body sent to Gey lab quickly. Then Gey got those samples after Henrietta death. And Gey asked her husband for permission. Gey said when he agreed to sign autopsy, his children might help someday. Therefore, he sigh the paper.

Impression:

I think Henrietta was courage because she faced her disease and worked out her family. Although her doctors was unfriendly, she got her family help.

Question:

Why does white doctor discriminate black people?

P33--66

The story of The Immortal life of Henrietta Lacks talked about HeLa suffered from unfair treatment, and she received rap treatment and she didn't know her cells to give Gey doctor doing experiment. And Gey give the Hela's cells of sample to Mary growing them in the lab, Gey and partner Margaret did the research for many years. They had grew Hela's cell in the blood but they didn't success.

When Hela finished her treatment, she went back home and nobody knew her sick. She did her housework, taking care of children and worked on tobacco field. Until after many month ago, she felt bad her body and she told her cousin and she had to X-ray therapy every weekday.

Finally, Hela got help for Roland. He had one of students Gey. Roland tried to persuade Gey for taking care of Hela. And Gey told about Hela's record, her cells had immortal and could help save the lives of countless people. When Hela heard this sentence, she felt happy.

I think that Hela was so courage and faced to her doctor impolite. However, she got the immortal life and the immortal could save other people. It is a miracle!!

Do you think why Hela's cells appear miracle?

The lmmortal life of Henrietta Lacks -- Chapter 1 to 3

The immortal life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot, talked about the black woman He La suddenly suffered from cervical cancer disease, which has tumor to kill cells, and she had to cure in radium treatment and against it. This was the exam for her. She had married with her husband Day, when he heard his wife's disease, he was worried about the disease of treatment, and he studied cancer information from medical textbooks. Although many patients cured in radium treatment, they were color and their doctors discriminate  against them, as a result, they died in cancer. He La's doctors were reporting cancer treatment in their laboratory, and they had to do sample so they needed to patients' tumor cells, and tried to grow them up, and killed them in radium treatment. But they almost failed and nobody could will to give their own bodies to doctors doing report. Therefore, the doctors didn't tell He La about her tumor cells to cut down to put on the glass to give the lab.

I think that Hela was kind and courage woman. she could fight with disease, and I learned about cancer from normal cells because normal cells became sick.

Do you think when Hela found out she had cancer she didn't tell her family that was a good thing?
